Biography

Services for Janice Carole Shiver Chason, 68, of Thomasville, Ga., and Destin, Fla., are at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Ochlocknee Baptist Church in Ochlocknee, where she was a member. The Rev. Dennis Norman, the Rev. Eric Tinsley and the Rev. Damien Salava will officiate, and interment is at Ochlocknee City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Kenneth Cooksey III, Stewart Cooksey, Dr. Clark Connell, Daniel Chason, Dan Stewart and Thomas D. Chason. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Taylor, Marshall Berman, Jim Stock, Charles Brown, Jerry Ragan, Dennis Brack, Greg Stinson and Bob Godwin. Mrs. Chason died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Born May 20, 1944, in Thomasville, she is a daughter of Eldridge M. Shiver and Lois Stewart Shiver, both of whom preceded her in death. On Jan. 26, 1963, in Moultrie, she married Dale Randall Chason. A 1962 graduate of Central High School, she retired after 42 years from Commercial Bank as assistant vice president. Nicknamed Flash, she enjoyed photography, traveling and scrapbooking. Her numerous community activities and memberships include Cross Creek School Council, Red Hat Society, Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Sunrise Kiwanis Club, Commercial Bank Retirees Club and Women’s Forum. She helped organize the Business and Education Exchange (BEE) program at Cross Creek School, was a tutor at Harper School and a Red Cross volunteer. As a member of the Cocoon Club, she is the second cocoon to get her wings. Survivors include her husband, Dale R. Chason, of Thomasville; son and daughter-in-law, D. Randall Chason Jr. (Karen), of Tallahassee, Fla.; grandson, Brandon Chason, of Tallahassee; sisters, Pamela Cooksey (Kenneth E. Jr.), of Monticello, Fla., Deborah Jones (Ludy), of Camilla, Tammi Mott (Bill), of Thomasville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Debbie Chason, of Thomasville, Jane and Dave Junker of Ochlocknee; sister-in-law, Donna Proctor, of Thomasville; aunt, Madeleine S. Alred, of Moultrie; uncles and their wives, J.L. Stewart, of Swainsboro, Donald Stewart (Betty Jean), of Headland, Ala., Charles Stewart of Pelham, Cecil Stewart (Faye) of Ochlocknee; nieces and nephews, Kenneth Cooksey III (Tabetha) and their two sons, Henry and Preston, Stewart Cooksey, all of Monticello, Fla., Malissa Robbins and her two children, Meredith and Will, of Moultrie, Dr. Clark Connell (Jenny) and their three children, Gray, Jack and Ruby Cate, of Thomasville, Daniel Chason (Charlene), of Ochlocknee, Tara Newman (Steve) and their children, Mae and Hannah, all of Tallahassee, Faith Rose (Mike) and their daughters, Paislee and Karlyn, Roland Benton, Jinna Lynn Proctor, all of Thomasville; and her beloved dog, Sam. Memorials may be made to the Archbold Foundation, 910 S. Broad St., Thomasville, Ga. 31792. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
