Life Legacy


A celebration of the life of Helen Taylor Rayburn, 80, of Boston, GA wil be held at 3pm tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Salem Baptist Church, Pavo, GA, were she was a member. The Reverends John Grebata, Marshall Dixon and Dr. Dan Spencer will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. Born January 21, 1931 in Colquitt county, Helen was the daughter of the late Lucious Marion and Sessie Elizabeth Turner Taylor. She graduated as a member of the Pavo High School's class of 1948 where she was an avid basketball player. Helen was an excellent cook and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. On December 20, 1951, she married Carl Matthew Rayburn, who survives. In addition to her husband of 59 years she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Shirley Rayburn, Jeffrey and Lawana Rayburn and son Dennis Rayburn all of Boston, GA; 5 grandchildren, Brian Rayburn and wife Sherri, Kathryn Singletary and husband Jared, Thomas Rayburn and Andrew Rayburn all of Boston,GA; Marilyn Shiver and husband Greg of Camilla, GA; and 3 great-grandchildren, Stone and Dawson Singletary and Gavin Shiver. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Cecil Taylor (Louise) and Hazel Collins of Lakeland, FL and Lorene Humphries and L.M. Taylor (Winona) of Pavo, GA, sister's-in-law Mary Taylor, Florence Taylor and Pauline Taylor. Numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Robert, James, Floyd and Earl Taylor and brother's-in-law Carroll Collins and Ronald Humphries. Mrs. Rayburn's love, integrity and strength of character were qualities she carried with her throughout her daily life. Always concerned about the needs of others she shared her time, energy and talents with anyone and everyone. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church, 10795 HWY 122, Thomasville, GA 31757. The family will recieve friends monday, February 14 from 5:30-7:30 pm at the funeral home and tuesday,February 15 from 1:30-2:30 pm prior to the service in Salem Baptist Church sanctuary.
